The Capital of Clean Air
Kraków has already been the capital twice: first, as the capital of Poland, which fills us with pride, but also, unfortunately, as the notorious “capital of smog”. Together, we have worked hard to make the air in our city better. Actions taken by residents, the city government, and non-governmental organizations have made it possible to breathe more freely in Kraków today. Among the efforts made are:
- Replacement of old furnaces
- Ban on burning waste in furnaces
- Expansion of the tram network
- Renewal of the bus and tram fleet
- Construction of bicycle paths
- Development of Park and Ride (P+R) parkings
But can we finally take a deep breath? Unfortunately, not yet. We are still on the path to clean air in Kraków—air free of harmful substances that affect our health and the health of our loved ones, especially children and the elderly.
The air we breathe impacts the quality and longevity of life for Kraków’s residents, now and in the future. It’s worth the effort for future generations: our children and grandchildren.
We want to think about this today, which is why we are implementing gradual changes that will have a positive impact on all of us. Together, we can make our city a true Capital of Clean Air in the future.
We want to showcase what we’ve achieved in recent years and encourage everyone to join us. Let’s choose eco-friendly means of transportation, such as public transit, bicycles, rollerblades, and all cars—whether gasoline, diesel, hybrid, or LPG—that meet emissions standards.
Let’s take a collective breath and care for the air we breathe. We invite everyone on a journey toward the Capital of Clean Air!
